Road Work Plans 2023

Summer will be here before we know it and the never-ending road construction will be done, or will it? Workers are racing to meet their goals of the Causeway project before the summer crowd starts to arrive. According to The Sandpaper, while the Causeway project will not be completed before Memorial Day, the state plans on halting lane and road closures to avoid traffic on the bridge and in Ship Bottom for the summer (hopefully this holds true). Once the major project is completed, the west end of the bridge (connecting to Manahawkin) will be widened adding another turning lane and a third lane onto the state highway. On the east end, (connecting to Ship Bottom) Eighth and Ninth Street will be widened at the crossroads of Barnegat Ave, Central Ave, and Long Beach Blvd. The circle at the causeway will be reshaped in a more efficient way to allow two-way traffic on the Boulevard. Positively, Surf City is on track to finish its road construction projects by Memorial Day weekend. While traffic stemming from roadwork is promised not to be a major issue this summer, I recommend keeping the possibility in mind when traveling on the weekends.
