Hurricane Season Tips

Are you ready for a hurricane? Of course not! Let’s face it, unless you are a surfer, the thought of a hurricane can be terrifying and stressful, especially when thinking about your property. While mother nature is completely out of our control, below are some tips to best prepare yourself for unfavorable weather and storms.

  1. Tie down/bring in outdoor furniture, potted plants, umbrellas, string lights, toys, and anything else that strong wind or water can destroy. Remove or relocate items near outside windows.

  2. Make sure you are aware of the location of your shut-off valves and breakers in the home.

  3. If you have a generator, test regularly to make sure it is in working order.

  4. Watch weather alerts, weather reports, and the news for updates. Brush up on storm terminology to know if there may be flash floods, heavy winds, lightning, etc.

  5. Make sure you have water, flashlights, batteries, first-aid, food, portable chargers, and other related items in your home.

  6. Make a plan now for the possibility that the island must be evacuated.

Hopefully, these tips are unnecessary this season and just something to keep in the back of your mind!
